It would be a treat if you can keep me out of the heat

Our Animal Control Team would like to remind you that it gets crazy hot in vehicles, especially on warm days.

Leaving your dog alone in a vehicle can be seriously dangerous. Even with windows open, a dark-coloured vehicle parked in full sun on a day with an ambient temperature of 22°C can reach an internal temperature of 40°C after 10 minutes.

If you find a dog in distress in a car, call the Police on 111, the SPCA on 0800 SPCA NZ (77 22 69) or AA Roadside Assistance. The AA will rush to the rescue. No membership is needed. Call 0800 500 222 or *222 from mobile phones.
