Water Conservation Level 1 - Levin and Ōhau

On Display Indefinitely

Ōhau River flows, where Levin and Ōhau residents connected to the town water supply get their water from, have dropped below 2,500 litres per second and town water demand is more than 10,000 cubic metres per day.

To prevent water demand exceeding our available supply, we need to conserve water.

Water conservation is a team effort and everyone should be mindful of their water use.

There are simple things we can all do to make sure we do not run out of water:

  • Turn the tap off while brushing teeth or shaving
  • Check your toilet cistern, taps, and pipes for leaks or overflow
  • Switch to a water efficient showerhead or install a shower flow restrictor
  • Use a bucket of water and a soft sponge or mop for outdoor cleaning jobs
  • Sweep up garden waste, rather than hosing it away
  • Do only full loads in the washing machine and dishwasher
  • Cut your shower time down
  • Use a bowl or plug in the sink when washing vegetables or handwashing dishes
  • Install a dual-flush toilet cistern.
