Waitārere Beach rāhui

No longer on display. Expired on July 16, 2023, 12:00 AM

On Tuesday 11 July 2023 a collective of local Iwi gathered to perform a karakia/traditional blessing for a person who was found deceased at Waitārere Beach on Monday 10 July 2023.

The blessing acknowledged the deceased, and their whānau for their loss. It is understood that the deceased had been missing from Palmerston North.

Out of respect to the deceased and their whānau, the Iwi collective have placed a rāhui at Waitārere Beach from the Wairarawa Stream (the stream right of the main Waitārere Beach entrance) to the mouth of the Manawatū river.  Food gathering and swimming is prohibited until the morning of Saturday 15 July 2023.

Thank you for respecting this rāhui.

Our condolences to the bereaved whānau and friends.
