Permanent Waste Transfer and Recycling Stations
Opening hours as normal, except for:
- Levin: Closed on Christmas Day and New Year’s Day. Public Holiday hours from 8am to 4.30pm.
- Foxton: Closed on Christmas Day and New Year’s Day. Normal hours on all other days.
- Shannon: No change to normal opening hours.

Beach Recycling Stations
- Foxton Beach: A recycling station is located on Seabury Avenue and available from mid-December to mid-March.
- Waitārere Beach: A recycling station is located in the Waitārere Beach car park and is available all year round.
- Waikawa Beach: A recycling station is located near the toilet block by the reserve and is available from mid-December to early January. Please recycle approved material only. No recycling after 6.30pm or before 8am.
Please dispose of approved recyclable material only.
These recycling stations may be removed temporarily for servicing and emptying over this period.
Kerbside collection will continue as normal, with the exception of Christmas Day and New Year’s Day.
The collection which would normally happen on Wednesday 25 December 2024 will be moved to Saturday 28 December 2024.
The Wednesday 1 January 2025 collection will move to Saturday 4 January 2025.

Please be aware collection times may vary. Please have your bags, wheelie bin and glass crates out before 7.30am on your collection day.

For all cemeteries district wide, a Sunday and Public Holiday Fee applies to all interments on Sundays and Public Holidays with the exception of Christmas Day, Boxing Day, New Year’s Day when no interments are permitted.
Please note, for all interments from Wednesday 25 December 2024 to Sunday 05 January 2025 the following process will be in place:
- A minimum of 24 hours notification must be given to Green by Nature and the HDC Primary Contact of all burial arrangements.
- All paperwork must be received by email to Cemetery_Requests@horowhenua.govt.nz and received by Green by Nature before 4pm on the day prior to the burial.
- All burials will occur in the afternoon during this period, unless arranged with Green by Nature prior.
- No headstone permits will be processed during this period. Processing of headstone permits will start from Tuesday 12 January 2025.
- All burials on statutory holidays will attract an additional fee as detailed in Council’s fee and charges detailed on our Cemeteries Fees and Charges page.
