Chorus Cabinets

Horowhenua District Council facilitates this process each year and calls out for artists to put forward their submissions to paint selected Chorus Cabinets that have been allocated.

Four cabinets have been chosen for beautification in 2024. This year’s selection are located in Foxton, Foxton Beach and Levin.

Applications are open 

Applications open on Monday 2 September 2024 and close at 5pm on Tuesday 1 October 2024.

Council will work with Chorus to decide on the successful artists. Chorus will have final approval of the design (and may request modifications).

Depending on the size of the cabinet, artists will be compensated between $600 and $1,700 for their work.

Criteria

We take all of these elements into consideration when deciding on the artists:

• sketch / design
• meaning behind the artwork
• originality
• creativity
• how the artwork enhances the community where the box is located 
• artist’s availability and agreement to complete within the given timeframe.

Let’s celebrate

Talented artists in our district have already been working hard to add their artistic flair to the Chorus Cabinets and helping to create a beautiful looking community. These cabinets become works of art in the street, often telling stories about the communities in which they are located and helping to discourage tagging.

Successful entries

If you've been successful, the following requirements must be met:

• health and safety form completed and returned prior to work starting
• mural painted within the specified timeframe
• invoice supplied to Chorus 
• photos of finished artwork provided.
