Joan Cumming -
Until a few weeks ago Joan was still going strong at the Levin Clothing Bank - an extraordinary and valuable community resource that she started thirty years ago to help less fortunate families and give back to those in need.
Tucked away in the North Service Lane the clothing bank has helped families here and even as far away as the Philippines. Joan and her team have made the clothes from donated fabrics and they have been exceptional in their devotion to providing new garments right down to the underwear for babies and children of all ages for a small donation or if its an agency referral, then free of charge.
Many charities like Kids Can have made the point that for children, having something really new and just for them, rather than a hand me down, is extra special so what Joan and her team do is extra extra special. Although cheap imports have affected the Clothing Bank Joan is not stopping doing practical good, she’s just looking round for something else to do.
