Bill Bodell
Bill Bodell’s been involved with the hugely successful Foxton Easter Sunday Fair for the last 19 years. It started small when visiting caravanners asked if there was anything to do on Easter Sunday.
Stallholders set up where the windmill now stands and the event was so good people wanted it again. It got progressively bigger till it had to move to Easton Park and has never looked back. Now over 200 stalls selling a huge variety of goods have contributed over $180,000 for community projects over the years. It attracts crowds of up to 15,000 from all over the country.
Now Bill and Val Hayes and a team of volunteers run it and his particular job is to find great musical artists to entertain as well as being a general co-ordinator known as the Dog’s Body! Bill spent lots of time at Foxton Beach as a teenager and became a musician who’s formed bands here and in Australia where for several years he was principal tutor for woodwind and brass at the Joondalup City School of Music in Perth.
He’s been able to attract really big names to play and the music’s been so good people tell him they really look forward to what he’ll come up with the next year. Easter 2016 will be the 25th year of the Easter Sunday Fair and Bill will be in the thick of it I’m sure. As Secretary Val Hayes says: "We cannot do without him".
